Hear out the real Imvros!
Agridia (Tepeköy) village on the island of Gökçeada (Imbros), perched on Aghios Dimitrios mountain at an altitude of 390 m is the only village in Turkey still inhabited exclusively by Greeks. Many of the former residents and their descendants have returned to revive the time honoured traditions, restore their homes, reunite with the former villagers who flock from all around the world at Christmas time, Greek Orthodox Easter and over summer and especially at the Assumption of Virgin Mary (15th of August), where rituals like the mass slaughtering of animals, the "Kourkouta” (batter with meat simmered in large cauldrons by the church during the overnight stay of the Assumption) and treats of sweets and fresh fruit over the family graves at the village’s cemetery on the day of the Assumption, survive for thousands of years.
The visitor may enjoy the coolness descending from the mountain on the hot days of the summer Aegean island, the warm sun of spring and autumn, as well as the warmth of the stone and the fireplace in the cold winters of the mountain village.
“Ağridia Pansiyon” has three traditionally shaped sunny bedrooms with a bath.
Breakfast is served on the terrace with the breathtaking panoramic view prepared in mum's kitchen with materials produced only a few meters away: honey and eggs, fresh goat cheese, homemade pies and marmalade, vegetables from Dimitri’s garden opposite your room.
A small library with books in different languages selected one by one, inspired by the island’s history, free Wi-Fi, a cozy atmosphere and a lot of storytelling will be waiting for you upon your arrival.
Only a few kilometers away from the village, you may swim in beaches with crystal clear waters, do wind surf and other water sports, go fishing, explore archaeological sites, countless chapels, traditional Greek villages and Turkish settlements, seek the history of Imbros and the entire Aegean Sea, discover the Kaviria mysteries, gaze at the islands of Lemnos, Samothrace, Thasos up to Mount Athos in the colors of the sunset.
